Controversies and outlooks on vestibular rehabilitation.

Brazilian Journal of otorhinolaryngology 77 (2) Março/aBril 2011 http://www.bjorl.org.br / e-mail: [email protected] A Reabilitação Vestibular (RV) está hoje consagrada como uma opção terapêutica muito eficaz no tratamento dos distúrbios do equilíbrio corporal. Para que sua eficácia seja plena, deve ser aplicada diante de critérios fundamentados no diagnóstico e condições clínicas do doente. O Departamento de Otoneurologia da Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cérvico-Facial tem recebido inúmeros questionamentos a respeito da visão atual da RV. As questões referem-se principalmente ao domínio da terapia: a quem compete a indicação, quem faz, qual o método adequado para determinada doença, etc. É nosso parecer que apenas o médico do paciente está habilitado a ponderar e indicar o melhor tratamento para o seu paciente e, portanto, a RV. O terapeuta que acompanha o paciente deve, sobretudo, dominar o conhecimento da fisiologia da postura e movimento, e ainda, como o sistema nervoso central coordena o equilíbrio do corpo frente às tarefas apresentadas. Não há uma área específica que detenha o domínio da RV. Atualmente, vários setores da medicina e das áreas paramédicas têm se dedicado ao estudo do equilíbrio corporal. Dentre os especialistas envolvidos com o tema, o médico otorrinolaringologista assume posição fundamental, pois é o profissional que possui o conhecimento anatomofisiológico referente ao principal sistema responsável por toda a percepção e integração do movimento – o sistema vestibular. É ainda o profissional que detém a habilidade necessária para abordar cirurgicamente o osso temporal. Diante do crescente interesse dos associados, em 2011 o referido departamento pretende realizar um simpósio que tem por objetivo apresentar e discutir a visão atual da RV em todos os seus aspectos. O Simpósio “CONTROVÉRSiAS E PERSPECTiVAS DO TRATAMENTO OTONEuROLÓGiCO” está programado para novembro de 2011 em local a ser definido, na cidade de São Paulo.
